singer/songwriter Rorie Kelly had challenged me to write a song based on a pattern from the mapmywalk app. It inspired a Victorian holiday/new years song.

The sun it sets over the mountains
Where I live upon the hill
I see the visitors approaching
From my stained glass window sill

Lowering the draw bridge
Opening the barbican
Unlatching the portcullis
Between gargoyle guardians

Set the cards out by the table
To read before St. George's play
Place the alms out by the entrance
For mumpers this St. Thomas day

Pour the spirit on the harvest,
Set the platter ablaze
Shadows dance upon the stone walls
Blood and burns from smoky haze

Chase after guests with the blindfold on
Run into corners while the crowd cheers on
A round of pyramids to graze upon
Wicks burning down on the candelabra

Light up the new sticks on the candelabra
Call in the chancellor to toast cure-alls
Ten more nights until the phantom ball
We'll throw a cake at the door, fortune for all
