Everyone in Trinidad, Colorado wondered who this new Texan was They didn't have to wonder long, he again pulled out a gun Shot a man now he's on the run Him and brother Ike took up new ideas They sat down in the animas valley They formed a gang, and cattle they would reign With shootouts and hangings They pretended to be cattlemen that prospered But the only thing they prospered at was thieving They stole so much cattle they opened a business To sell beef to those they had been robbing This texan became town marshal While thriving stealing the neighbours' cows Him and the gang held durango in their hands And weren't afraid to shoot any man down Port Stockton With his average height and average build And sandy moustache and rugged ways He wooed a minister's daughter to marry him She bore him Ellen, Mary Jane and Essie May Port Stockton 4th of January '81 Everyone had enough of his ways They stood outside his house, blatantly in view When Port opened the door they blew him away Port Stockton Port Stockton

Anders Villa 01:48
Anders Villa is a man that works Down by the old store Been employed for about a month or so All the kin wonder who he is And what brought him this way Hard to talk to a man who ain't got much to say Carries a gun, carries a knife Seems like he fears for his life But this sleepy little village don't do much anyway Who is this man with the wide brim hat That drifts from out of town with a horse like that His accent ain't the same as ours round here But i'd bet the bottom dollar if i had a pair Anders Villa scoping out the town Shakin' it up, shakin' it down Everybody is turning their heads He's asking questions that seem strange Is he looking for land or an open range Calculating all the cattle by the head He's proposing irrigation While dodging any interrogation Boys, should we keep him alive or shoot him dead Who is this man with the wide brim hat That drifts from out of town with a horse like that His accent ain't the same as ours round here But i'd bet the bottom dollar if i had a pair Anders Villa is a man that works Anders Villa scoping out the town

Saturday evening over at the barn Right after supper at 6 o'clock Barnyard shuffle We do the barn yard shuffle Everybody in town, swing your partners around And do the barnyard shuffle I grab the washboard, you grab the spoons We'll kick up dust til it reaches the moon Barnyard shuffle We do the barn yard shuffle Everybody in town, swing your partners around And do the barnyard shuffle First up the chicken reel then do-si-do We'll stompdown til we can't no more Barnyard shuffle We do the barn yard shuffle Everybody in town, swing your partners around And do the barnyard shuffle I'll take Florence, and you take Rose We'll lindy hop them right out the door Barnyard shuffle We do the barn yard shuffle Everybody in town, swing your partners around And do the barnyard shuffle

It's hard to be a kid after the civil war Down in Nashville,Tennessee Eleven years old and you gotta go to work 'Cuz you're employed by a cotton factory So ya move on to teaching while you study law And go forth to New Mexico All in a day's work when it's said and done Who knows just how far you'll go But it's all about the money, all about the cheers It's all about looking good in the eyes of your peers You moved on to judge then associate justice Of the New Mexico supreme court With the rise of success you drew an older rival That challenged you openly and retort Then one winter near the White Sands him and his son disappeared Only left two pools of blood You defended the accused of the murder One was your neighbour and successfully won But it's all about the money, all about the cheers It's all about looking good in the eyes of your peers You rose up as attorney general in the territory Served as captain in the spanish-american war You found success again defending Brazel Who was accused of killing Sheriff Pat Garrett Elected as a US senator came a disappointment From the people from all sides Though some suggest the death of his two children In the 1918 flu epidemic had favored his side But it's all about the money, all about the cheers It's all about looking good in the eyes of your peers Buying out the ranch interests of Susan McSween Appointed secretary of the interior By president Harding in 1921 It's the beginning of A. Fall to come undone He accepted bribes for leases and became suddenly rich The teapot dome scandal made the government twitch He was found guilty of conspiracy Found himself on the other side of the law, you see But it's all about the money, all about the cheers It's all about looking good in the eyes of your peers Where does $400,000 of bribed money get you in 1929? The title of the first cabinet officer Imprisoned for a year's time He died four days after reaching his birthday of age eighty three Buried at an evergreen plot in el paso Rumors have he died in poverty But it's all about the money, all about the cheers It's all about looking good in the eyes of your peers But it's all about the money, all about the cheers It's all about looking good in the eyes of your peers

I gotta lay her down now Ain't no tuning back now The things I've done in my life Came back to haunt me now I need a real good pine box For the woman I took away Gimme one real good The four dollar box one I don't need to quilts or sheets Just one to get the job done If Van Buren don't put me away This soul will have numbered days A golden locket I won't need Just gonna be her and me Two of us laying on the ground Two of us staying til we're found I didn't mean it to end this way I just got a little carried away

In Oxford,England in the 18th century When diseases were abundant in the ill You go down to ol' penrhys And toss some clothing in the well The well it had healing powers Cure you of all you had And let me tell you folks about life It was as bad as you assume bad A day's walk south east from here More people buried than baptized The living conditions so unmanageable Almost a blessing if you die So we make the trek off to Wales To heal at the well of penrhys It's so much better to walk to hope Instead of waiting round to die In Oxford,England in the 18th century When diseases were abundant in the ill You go down to ol' penrhys And toss some clothing in the well

Lord, take this hammer and put it in the grave Lord, take this hammer and put it in the grave Some people are doomed to die And others are meant to be saved Been working on this railroad dang near all my life Working on this railroad dang near all my life My children all are grown and gone And I barely got a wife I got me some tools but they don't work so well I got me some tools but they don't work so well How will I get done it time? Only time will tell The sun is beating on me, it won't slow me down The sun is beating on me, but it won't slow me down Gotta lay another track steady on the ground Lord, take this hammer and put it in the grave Lord, take this hammer and put it in the grave Some people are doomed to die And others are meant to be saved
